Scott Robert Lim Workshop Day 1 – ef50mm f1.2L – Acacia Retreat (w/ slideshow)

This is going to be one BIG post just because so much has happened/is happening this week. So bear with me!

1. Scott Robert Lim’s Oakland/San Francisco Workshop Day 1.
Finally, the workshop I have been waiting for to happen for such a long time already! And I finally get to meet the dude behind it all! I am really excited about what I’ll be learning these next 2 days! Seriously excited!

I just want to take the time to acknowledge and THANK those who have supported me for this workshop and those who have invested their time and money in helping me try to get better with my photography so that I can give back to you guys nothing short of the best! If you still want to support me monetarily, I still need all the help I can get with my Spain trip. Check out these posts for more info –> Help me out!

Today was basically a meet and greet day. Scott went over his lecture on marketing in photography and getting what you want. There is much to think about! I am excited no doubt but also intimidated by the fast-paced-ness of the wedding photography field and I continue to ask myself will I be able to survive? One has to be constantly changing and actively seeking out the latest trends and styles to survive!

Not only that, personal character is very important too! I kept analyzing myself throughout his lecture and came to the conclusion that that is perhaps the greatest thing I need to work on. I need to work on being even more socialable. I’ve definitely come a long way since my high school days that’s for sure. But like photography itself, there is always room for improvement.

Stay tuned in my next posts for pictures from the workshop!

2. Canon’s ef50mm f1.2L
Guess what I have in my hands!? A Canon 50mm f1.2L! Ok fine it’s not mine but a rental. It was a last minute decision to rent it for this weekend since I’ll be shooting many portraits. It will give me enough time to test it out to see if I really want to buy the lens in the future. Actually I wanted to rent the 85mm f1.2L since that’s the lens I’m considering next but the people I get my stuff from didn’t have it. At f1.2, this thing produces insane background blur…insane.

This thing is HUMONGOUS! Like a big black hole. So big I can see the shutter magnified through the glass elements.

3. Acacia Retreat 3/29-3/30/2008
I really love hanging out with friends. I believe God put friends here on Earth for many reasons such to bring joy or to help you through the tough times. This past weekend was full of fun hanging out and enjoying each other’s company through Bible Studies, hiking, biking, eating, and fellowshiping out in nature away from our daily lives and locations!

I wasn’t in much of a picture/photojournalism mood during the retreat so I didn’t get in many good people shots since I was too busy having fun but I did try to get some cool images when I was conscious that I had my camera around my neck.
